Novak Djokovic Most Beloved Foreign Athlete Of 2016 Rio Olympic Games

According to a research done by Brazilian media, Novak Djokovic, along with Usain Bolt, Micheal Phelps, Simone Biles and Teresa Almeida, has been named as one of the five most beloved foreign athlete of 2016 Rio Olympic Games.

The Serb, popularly known as ‘Djokinho’ in Brazil, received huge admiration from the Brazilian fans. During his first round singles match at Olympics against Juan Martin Del Potro, the crowd even chanted: “Ole, Ole, Djokovic is a Brazilian”.

To show his mutual admiration towards the Brazilian fans, Djokovic wore Brazilian flag colored wrist bands during his singles and doubles matches at the Olympics and said: “The people here gave me such wonderful energy, received me so well, as if I was one of them, one of their athletes. I will never forget it. I would have give them back by winning a medal but it wasn’t meant to be. Its sport, we have to accept and move on. I would like to thank everyone who came to support me.”

Andre Agassi on Djokovic: He will be back at US Open

Andre Agassi, in an exclusive interview to CNN, said that he believes that Novak Djokovic will return to his winning ways at the US Open after early exits at Wimbledon and Olympic games.

“He will come back for the U.S. Open,” the former world no.1 told CNN’s Open Court. “Anybody that knows me knows that I think he should win everything all the time. That is how he separated himself from everybody.”

This is not the first time that Agassi has made such prediction on Djokovic. Two years ago during the first season of International Premier Tennis League (IPTL), Agassi tipped Djokovic to dominate the 2015 season. And Agassi was right, as the Serb sensation won 11 titles, including 3 majors and 6 masters 1000 and finished the season as number one for a fourth time in his career.

Right now, Djokovic is recovering from a left hand wrist injury that forced him to withdraw from ATP 1000 Western & Southern Open. However, he has already began his preparations for the US Open. The Serb was spotted practicing at his academy in Belgrade a couple of days ago. Watch the video below:

The US Open Tennis Championships begins from 29th August.

“He was one of the people I spoke quite a lot during my worst times.  It’s difficult to speak with tennis players without speaking about the sport, but with him I’ve a special relationship and that’s why we hugged each other like that at the net. The day after our match, I was sitting in the Olympic village, Novak came there, he had lost his doubles match, and we embraced.”
